Just in time for Election Day, we created "The Oddities of the First American Election", our third short film for TED’s educational initiative, TED Ed: Lessons Worth Sharing, an open platform dedicated to providing high school and college teachers a new way to use video content on the web: a way of “flipping” web video into a basis for their own lessons along with context, follow-up questions and further resources.
Our third project for TED-Ed was created just in time for Election Day 2012: "The Oddities of the First American Election."
In re-watching this segment I am struck by how this translates into modern times--how disruptive 2020 was and the aftermath of that election– and how prescient the founders tried to be, but actually now, instead of the populace being corrupt, the legislators are. They seem to be enticed to overthrow the will of their citizens for their own political gain.
Democracy is more important than ever and the sanctity of the vote needs to be protected. It’s time for a new course in civics!
