Abdul the Reluctant Martyr

Modern Man's musicians David Buskin and Rob Carlson saw some of our collaborations with Lanny Meyers. They approached Buzzco with Abdul the Reluctant Martyr, a new song they had performed at the Thalia Follies. They envisioned the music video to look like an old TV show opening, like the Mary Tyler Moore Show.  Buzzco leapt at the chance and Bryon Moore designed it in the same 1960's style of animation.  It's currently playing on YouTube and you can find out more about Modern Man by visiting their site www.modernman3.com.

When Modern Man asked me if we’d make this music video for them, I thought it’d be a great project for our employee, Bryon Moore.  Bryon and I had worked together since the early days of Perpetual Motion Pictures.  He was one of the best assistant animators in New York– his clean ups were beautiful– his line had a natural thick/thin musical quality and he was always “on-model”. But by 2007 computers had taken over the animation business and Bryon had trouble with the technology. We hired him to get up to speed with Flash and vector graphics.

This music video was a perfect vehicle for Bryon.  Not only was his design work super, it would have no air date and therefore no time pressure and Rick Broas, our technical wizard, would be working on the computer next to him.  It was a great experience all around.
