On Saturday October 21, 2023 a group of cartoonists and writers met for an intimate celebratory gathering for their wonderful friend and colleague Ed Koren. Cartoonist Michael Maslin wrote about it on his blog including a wonderful picture of the crowd.
I was happy to be included having first met Ed when his illustrations were being made into a Xerox commercial at Perpetual Motion Pictures. I was lucky to have been assigned director of the ad, meaning I had to emulate his design in making over a dozen layout drawings for the animators. He said he couldn't tell his drawings from mine (such a compliment!)-- and then asked if it was easy to draw like him? I said I could only copy his drawings, not create them. He was a kind and generous man.
