Candy’s mother suffered a massive stroke in 1994 and then survived another 12 years with aphasia, the condition that impairs a person’s ability to process language. Because her mother could no longer speak, Candy noticed that even well-meaning friends stopped talking with her, and in fact, avoided looking directly at her when they came to visit. As a tribute to her and as a much needed public service, Buzzco created It’s Still Me! A Guide for People with Aphasia and their Loved Ones.
In researching aphasia, Candy reached out to the National Aphasia Association which had agreed to distribute the DVD. They asked if she knew Marc Black who was involved with the aphasia community through his documentary A Stroke of Genius about his friend, Dan Mountain. Actually she did-- having just made a music video for his song, Oooh I Love My Coffee.
Marc scored It's Still Me! but it's this music video that Marc has shown around the country and touches the aphasia community directly!
It came as a big surprise that Marc Black was already a part of the aphasia community, so it was no surprise when he agreed to score the video. We also decided to write this song as a good and hopeful closing to the video.
