There's no need to fear.
When Charlex, the digital design postproduction atelier, was awarded the Visa Superheroes spot by BBD&O to premiere on the Superbowl, they came to Buzzco to create the 2D animation for Underdog.
The spot starts with a woman, alone in a dark parking lot, calling for help. All the Marvel superheroes come to her aid from Thor to Captain America, but when they hear it's just a lost Visa card, that can be easily replaced, they leave in disgust.
Underdog, that classic antihero from the 1960's, arrives a couple of beats too late just to be dismissed by our woman.
This was a real challenge-- and, of course, over the Christmas holidays!
Underdog had to be classically animated: every nuance of acting had to quickly convey his attitude, shifting from bold to dejected and all in about 4 seconds.
Although the production time was compressed and the pace hectic, Vincent Cafarelli, Candy Kugel and Rick Broas met the challenge and successfully brought Underdog to life!
