Originally conceived in a time of senseless warfare, unfortunately, it is still relevant today demonstrating that warfare is the antithesis of evolution.
One day, a visitor to Buzzco asked to see some storyboard samples. Vinny pulled some out from a drawer. He showed a storyboard that our old friend (and my first boss!), Hal Slvermintz, had drawn during the Vietnam War Era. Vinny had wanted to turn it into a film at the time but it never happened. And now, 40 years later, we determined that the time was ripe! Originally conceived in a time of senseless warfare, unfortunately, it is still relevant in 2008, demonstrating that warfare is the antithesis of evolution.
I loved Hal’s sensibility and tried to emulate his "colored pencil on construction paper" design in Flash. I had originally timed the piece to “Swing, swing, swing”, written by Louis Prima in 1935. When I found out that it was still under copyright (really??) and way too expensive for a small indy exercise, Lanny Meyers came to the rescue with this swingy score!
Hal Silvermintz, who was retired and living in Florida, was happy at the notion that his work would finally be realized and was delighted with the final results.
